YIN-YANG SEPARATION IN YANG TAI CHI
Sifu Dale Napier of Houston will offer a workshop focusing on foundation leg movements. This lesson will be of value to everyone regardless of their Tai Chi background. Attendees will learn how to use their legs to generate energy and provide a solid foundation for discharging (fa-jing) techniques. Traditional Yang stylists in particular will learn a different basis for using their legs to inform movements in the Yang long and short forms. This basis avoids the back-and-forth movements common among ordinary Yang, in favor of a more muscular approach that emphasizes yin-yang separation, spiraling, rooting, and energy generation.Sifu Napier has 30 years experience with Tai Chi. His lineage through Master George Hu makes him a 6th-generation Yang style teacher. He is Vice President of the American Yangjia Michuan Taijiquan Association. Napier teaches Tai Chi and Chi Kung classes publicly and at the University of Houston; has published articles about Tai Chi in Kung Fu magazine and other publications; and writes a blog about Taoism for the Houston Chronicle. Napier also has background in Northern Shaolin Kung Fu, Shorin-Ryu karate, Taekwondo, and judo, going back more than 40 years.
